The inaugural Maritime Knowledge Shipping session for the year was held on 28 March 2011. Jointly organised by Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) and General Insurance Association (GIA), the Asset Play and Dispute Resolution was well attended by marine insurance practitioners and maritime professionals.
Mr Henry Mytton-Mills, Managing Director of Aries Shipbroking (Asia) Pte Ltd and SMF Advisory Panel Member, gave an insightful address and showed a video presentation on a re-enactment of the acquisition process involving ship owners (buyer and seller), broker and banker.
Thereafter, Ms Ticy Thomas, Research Analyst at the Centre for Maritime Studies, National University of Singapore, walked participants through the Ship Sale & Purchase process and explained the complexities behind it.
The second speaker, Mr Lee Wai Pong, Executive Director of the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) gave an interesting presentation which gave the participants a better understanding of the arbitration and legal scene in Singapore and explained the workings of arbitration and how it can applies to the maritime community.
Participants freely discussed their views and voiced their queries during the Q&A session and the panel of speakers shared their perspectives on the topics discussed.
