The Maritime Knowledge Shipping Series, Session 11 was held on 1 October 2009, at Capital Tower. Titled “Maritime Dispute Resolution”, this seminar sought to give participants a better understanding of the various aspects of marine dispute resolution. The two speakers, Mr Nicholas Sansom and Mr Andrew Chan shared their wealth of experience on some of the intricacies and complexities of this topic.
The first speaker, Mr Nicholas Sansom, Executive Director of the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA), gave participants an overview of the various kinds of dispute resolution, the pros and cons of various methodologies from court settlement to marine arbitration. He also gave participants a briefing about the newly established Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA).
The second speaker, Mr Andrew Chan, General Manager of Marubeni International Petroleum (S) Pte Ltd, focused on the operational issues related to marine insurance from the user’s perspective, on cargo trade. He also shared some of the best practices of enforcement and give tips on how to mount a successful claim and the ancillary actions to adopt.
