Launch of Singapore Maritime Week

The 6th Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) was launched by then Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Raymond Lim, on 10 April 2011 at Suntec City, Entertainment Centre Atrium. As part of the launch, Minister Lim placed the final piece in a specially commissioned lego mural, which depicts the strength and vibrancy of the local maritime community.

Prior to the launch, three outreach activities were held to engage the general public and allow them to learn more about the local maritime industry. The SMW Postcard Design Competition, which ran from 9 February to 18 March 2011, sought to encourage the public to express their creativity as well as learn more about the rich maritime landscape of Singapore. On 9 April 2011, the local maritime community, comprising more than 70 people, ranging from top executives, lawyers, maritime professionals, government representatives to students came together to build a Maritime Singapore mural using more than 100,000 Lego pieces.
