Held on 1 November at Capital Tower, the session, Understanding Protection & Indemnity Clubs, is the 18th Maritime Knowledge Shipping Session jointly organised by Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) and General Insurance Association (GIA). The session debuted its first; a session whereby both presenters covered a presentation jointly, titled, Demystifying P&I Clubs.
In the first half of the presentation, both speakers, Mr David Heaselden, Loss Prevention Director, Shipowners’ Asia Pte Ltd, and Ms Gillian Musgrave, Regional Claims Director – Standard Asia, Charles Taylor Mutual Management (Asia) Pte. Limited, provided participants with an overview of the role of P&I Clubs and the cover they offer to their members, which include ship owners, operators and charterers. They also explained how the cover provided by P&I Clubs complement other types of marine insurance and the functions of the various departments within P&I Clubs.
For the second half of the presentation, both speakers used case studies to illustrate intricacies of large claims and discuss key issues that may be pertinent to the varied stakeholders that are involved. The lively question and answer session was moderated by Mr Jonathan Ranger, Principal Officer of Watkins Syndicate and GIA Property and Marine Committee Member.
The session was well-attended by over 250 marine insurance practitioners and maritime professionals.
