7January 2010 marked a major milestone for the Singapore Maritime Foundation. At the annual New Year Cocktail Reception held at the Sentosa Pavilion, over 200 maritime leaders gathered to witness the change of leadership of the SMF Board and to usher in the New Year.
The high-powered reception was graced by the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Raymond Lim, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs. SMF Chairman, Mr Michael Chia, shared SMF’s successes of 2009 in his welcome speech while Minister Lim gave a speech on the performance of the Singapore maritime industry in 2009 and his foresight in 2010.
This event was the first for Mr Michael Chia in his capacity as Chairman of SMF. Former Chairman Mr S.S. Teo and Board Member, Dato Jude Benny stepped down from their posts after their six years of service and received tokens of appreciation from the Minister. The new SMF Board of Directors were presented their appointment letters by Mr Chia. Together with Guest-of-Honour and Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Second Minister for Finance and Transport, the new SMF Board of Directors gave a toast to all the guests to wish them a great year ahead.
A special tribute was paid to SMF’s first Chairman, Mr Teo to thank him for his great contributions to SMF. Mr Teo was presented a commemorative album and guests were treated to a slide show of the album. The evening ended with a plethora of gourmet food and wine.
