SMF, together with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and the Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI), jointly organised Singapore’s participation at Posidonia 2006.
Posidonia 2006, the world’s largest shipping trade exhibition at a record-breaking 26,500 sq m, attracted more than 1,600 exhibitors from 80 countries and over 16,000 visitors from around the world.
Leading the way for our own 60-strong delegation was Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Minister of State for Finance and Transport. She, together with Greece’s Minister of Mercantile Marine, Mr Manolis Kefaloyiannis, jointly opened the Singapore Pavilion.
Posidonia 2006 was a success on several fronts.
For one, at 216.6 sqm, the Singapore Pavilion was the largest that we have ever had at the event. It was located strategically near the only main entrance to the exhibition. Its size and location offered our 16 exhibitors the unparalleled advantages of greater visibility and a more premium location than what they would likely have secured on their own. Through SMF, our exhibitors enjoyed the benefits of the International Marketing Assistance Programme (IMAP) grant offered by International Enterprise Singapore.

Our Pavilion, with its eye-catching and vibrant design, attracted a steady stream of visitors including shipping and port representatives, equipment suppliers and students.
These visitors complimented our Pavilion on providing a good overview of the different facets of our maritime industry. Our exhibitors represented a cross-section of the diverse and comprehensive array of maritime services and activities in Singapore, underscoring our well-earned reputation as a premier International Maritime Centre. Marketing collaterals promoting Singapore as a maritime hub, including 1,600 brochures, 2,500 bags and 1,500 toiletry bags, were distributed at the exhibition.
Posidonia 2006 also proved to be an invaluable platform for our exhibitors to network and identify new potential trade contacts and business partners. For example, ASL Shipyard received many enquiries as a result of the show.
Some exhibitors even took the opportunity to seal deals at Posidonia 2006. Teledata Marine Systems shook hands with US-based ECM Maritime Services, a spill response specialist, to provide customised software services to ECM’s clients. In addition, STET Maritime Bureau reached a representation agreement with Holland’s Hubel Marine for Europe and the Middle East.
In all, Posidonia turned out to be a publicity, marketing and business triumph for Singapore and its maritime community.
