Singapore Maritime Foundation Unveils the Exciting Lives of Maritime Professionals in the 'Singapore, Our Maritime City' Exhibition
Contrary to what many people think, the maritime industry is much more than just about ports, dirty overalls and hard physical labour. It has a rich and fascinating history and offers a myriad of opportunities for those seeking challenging and exciting careers.
An example of a young man who has thrived on opportunities in the maritime sector is Mr Jarrod Ho, 33, a trainee shipbroker who is on his way to the Netherlands to pursue his Masters on a SMF-MEL Maritime scholarship. Another talent in the maritime industry, Ms Alice Gwee, 33, advises her clients on multi-million dollar deals in ship financing and enjoys her challenges to the fullest in this ever-changing and dynamic industry.
The Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) is organising the exhibition, with the support of the National Library Board. One of the key objectives is to inspire the young by highlighting personal stories of people like Jarrod and Alice. The 'Singapore, Our Maritime City' Exhibition will be launched at the National Library Level 7 Promenade on 17 October 2006. It will run until 31 October 2006.
This exhibition, as one of the outreach efforts of the SMF, will bring across the message that the maritime trade is a sunrise industry with a niche for everyone. It will feature young personalities in the maritime industry, showcasing the fascinating careers that the young can experience in the maritime line. From ship financier to maritime lawyer to shipbroker, visitors to the exhibition will discover more about the myriad of career opportunities open to them.
This exhibition will also present the many different facets of the maritime industry; the history, the milestones, and the different sectors that come together to make this vibrant industry tick. Interested youths and parents can also find out more about the various maritime scholarships currently available.
Mr SS Teo, Chairman of the Singapore Maritime Foundation, will be launching the exhibition.
