Singapore, 29 October 2015 – David Chin, Executive Director of the Singapore Maritime Foundation won the Pioneer Generation Award at the Lloyd’s List Asia awards presented last night at the Fullerton Hotel Singapore.

This award recognises the shipping pioneer that has built the best in the maritime industry today. It celebrates the individual that over the course of his or her career, contributed to the wellbeing of the industry in a profound way. The winner was selected by the Lloyd’s List editors.

David Chin was selected due to his instrumental role in Singapore’s ascendance as a maritime hub. Among his many positions in maritime and trade policy, he served as deputy executive officer of the Trade Development Board and Director General (Trade) for the Board’s ASEAN division. He was a board member of the Port of Singapore Authority and director of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.

The Lloyd’s List Award series recognises the industry’s successes, setting a benchmark for excellence while rewarding innovative ideas and concepts that have pushed the boundaries of what is possible.

This year the Lloyd’s List Asia Awards recognised many who had contributed to the changing nature of the shipping industry, with new awards given to the outstanding individuals shaping some of these changes and to the companies driving change with their training, environmental and humanitarian projects.
